The violent death of Jina Mahsa Amini on September 16 has sparked a new era of social resistance in Iran. For years now, the slogans on the streets of Iran have been increasingly directed against the Islamic Republic as a whole and its ultraconservative representatives. But the regime uses all its force against its opponents. Already in the November 2019 protests, at least 1500 people were killed in three days.
The new wave of protests, which began in September 2022, is also a rapidly spreading international solidarity movement for women’s rights (in Iran). Under the Kurdish slogan “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” (Woman, Life, Freedom), demonstrations and nationwide strikes have already reached all 31 provinces of Iran – from urban centers to more rural regions – by the end of September.
The regime shows no mercy in its crackdown on protesters. The human rights organization Iran Human Rights speaks of crimes against humanity. According to her, at least 416 people, including 51 minors, had been killed by the third week of November. Some 18,000 people are also said to have been arrested. They are threatened with torture, family members are threatened and some detainees are even sentenced to death. Therefore, immediate help is urgently needed to support political prisoners and persecutees, human rights defenders, journalists and artists in Iran. The association Human Plus e.V. has therefore launched an emergency aid program, which we are supporting with 10.000€ want to support. This funds legal fees, security deposits, medical assistance, safe emergency housing, and support for dependents.
The people of Iran are not intimidated by the brutal, Islamist regime and fight for their freedom every day – at the risk of their lives. Supporting them now means cohesion. #StrongerTogether
